School Crooks

By the title, you may think this is a post about schoolyard bullies taking lunch money on a playground. Instead, I am going to rant about the school itself. One of my children attend a local elementary school. When they recently put on a play I was angry to find out all cameras were banned. Why? This is my child, I should be able to photgraph or videotape them if I see fit. To make matters worse, the school is selling pictures and dvds of the play. That's low. I'm sure the school can find a better way to raise money. To not allow a parent to photograph their child in a school play is just un-American. I purchased one of these dvd because I had no other option. What worries me is, what if the guy doing the filming is no good? What if all I can see is the backs of other peoples heads, or his fingers, or something else entirely. Besides, I won't get as much footage of my child that way. Is that selfish? Yes, but it's my child, I'm allowed to be selfish! Schools should not be able to ban parents from bringing cameras to school events. I'm The Eyeball, and that's what I see.

I totally agree. I think that is outrageous. I always film or take pictures of my children in all school events and of course I get the footage I want that way. You are taking the chance your child may not even be in the dvd or barely in it. I did purchase a school created dvd at one time because I thought it contained the entire homecoming week's activities but when I receive the video, it did not even contain my son - who was in the band that not only marched in the parade, but performed the half-time show. The band was completely excluded from the video altogether. This comment coming from same school system but different school within area. Maybe we need to start expressing some of these comments to the newly elected school board members. Only problem is then you run the risk of the school system personnel taking it out on your child. It has happened.

Thanks for the comment. I agree. Anyone that knows me personally knows the trouble I have had with the school system. I do think sometimes that my child suffers because of some of the actions I and my wife have taken in the child's best interest. It's a double egded sword. If you fight the system, you child could suffer. If you don't, you child could still suffer. I wish I had all the answers but all I can do is rant about it.
